A Timeless Romance: The Armstrong-Mauldin House at the Woman’s Club of Rock Hill

Tucked away in the heart of the Charlotte Avenue/Aiken Avenue Historic District, where magnolia trees sway and old brick paths wind through blooming gardens, there sits a house steeped in Southern charm and stories — the Armstrong-Mauldin House, lovingly maintained by the Woman’s Club of Rock Hill.

If you’re searching for a venue that whispers elegance, history, and heartfelt beauty, this hidden gem in Rock Hill, SC is everything you’ve been dreaming of. As wedding planners who are completely smitten with character-filled spaces, we at Crafted Charm Wedding Planning have fallen head over heels for this venue — and we know you will too.

✨ Where History Meets Heart

Built in 1921 for Rock Hill’s mayor, W.R. Armstrong, this two-story Spanish and American Colonial–style home is a true architectural treasure designed by renowned architect A.D. Gilchrist. The clay-tiled roof, symmetrical façade, and detailed craftsmanship speak to a bygone era — one that invites you to slow down and savor the beauty of love, legacy, and celebration.

In 1923, the home became part of the Mauldin family legacy when local businessman and Coca-Cola bottler William M. Mauldin purchased it. For decades, it was known as the “Coca-Cola House” and remained in the Mauldin family until 1969. In 1971, the Woman’s Club of Rock Hill acquired the home, restoring it with care and preserving its place in history. The home was later placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992 and the surrounding gardens have been recognized on both state and national levels for their historical and horticultural significance.

💐 A Dream Venue for Weddings and Events

Today, the Armstrong-Mauldin House stands as the proud centerpiece of the Woman’s Club — a 501(c)(3) organization affiliated with the South Carolina and General Federation of Women’s Clubs, the oldest and largest women’s volunteer service organization in the world. And while the Club continues its mission of civic service, it also offers its beautiful home and grounds for rental — welcoming couples to begin their own stories surrounded by history and grace.

Imagine this:
A romantic outdoor ceremony under the shade of mature trees, the soft gurgle of a fountain in the background, and sunlight dancing across the garden’s brick paths and reflecting pools. Later, a candlelit reception inside the elegant main floor rooms — with hardwood floors, a butler’s pantry, and original architectural details setting the scene for your perfect night.

From bridal showers and intimate luncheons to grand ceremonies and receptions, this venue can host it all. Upstairs, the bride and groom dressing suites provide a luxurious space to get ready in peace and style.

🌿 The Gardens: A Living Work of Art

Restored in 2009-2010 and lovingly known as the Mauldin Gardens, the grounds are full of seasonal blooms and timeless charm. Walk through the pergola, pose under the arbor, and explore a series of enchanting water features — from lily ponds to crane and dolphin fountains. The gardens were even chosen by the national Garden Conservancy for their prestigious Open Days program and are one of South Carolina’s designated Historic Gardens.

It’s no wonder this property has hosted countless weddings, engagement shoots, and celebrations over the years — it’s practically made for romance.
